Youths from Bayelsa creeks suspected to be ex-
militants, have issued a stern warning to Dame
Patience, wife of President Goodluck Jonathan not to
accompany her husband to the state during the Peoples’
Democratic Party (PDP) presidential rally scheduled to
hold on February 5.
The recent warning from the youths, under the aegis of the
Mangrove Boys of Bayelsa, MBB, is coming a few days after
a group which called itself, Bayelsa Youth Vanguard, BYV
issued a similar one, barring Patience from attending the
proposed rally.
The youths are barring the First Lady from Bayelsa over her
alleged involvement in an alleged plot to embarrass the
state governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, during the forthcoming
presidential rally in the state, Punch reports.
They said Patience would be thoroughly disgraced and have
herself to blame if she failed to heed their warning.
In a statement yesterday by their President, Mr. Opuyo
Engobara, and Secretary, Mr. Warrman Aderi, the youths
listed eight sins of the president’s wife.
1. She opened a new secretariat for the Transformation
Ambassadors of Nigeria in the state with an intention to use
the group to mobilise against the governor.
2. The First Lady tinkered with the leadership of TAN and
aided her loyalists to reposition the campaign group to
actualise her ambition of removing Dickson.
3. She used the occasion of the sharing of the Millennium
Development Goals items at the Samson Siasia Stadium to
make inflammatory statements against the governor.
4. She aided her anointed governorship aspirant, Mr.
Waripamowei Dudafa, to recruit youths to boo and stone
Governor Seriake Dickson, at the proposed rally.
5. She attended a function in Dudafa’s town where she made
open statements supporting him as the next governor.
6. She sponsored aspirants that failed in the PDP primaries,
to defect to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
7. In her last visit to the state, Mrs. Jonathan was said to
have come ahead of her husband, avoided the state
Government Lodge and stayed at Otuoke for three days.
8. Her actions and pronouncement in recent times had
allegedly been fuelling crisis in the state.
The group decried Jonathan’s silence over his wife’s alleged
excesses saying: “ Is President Jonathan using this as a ploy
to join Bayelsa youths to stone Governor Dickson as
promised (by the President) during his presidential
campaign in 2011 and subsequently to oust Dickson’s
administration, since he could hardly rebuke his wife in
several of her political atrocities ?”
They insisted that the First Lady’s presence at the proposed
rally would cause tension and security breaches in the state.
Meanwhile, in reaction to the threat, a coalition of seven
youth groups from the state, have declared their readiness
to rally round Dame Patience, Vanguard reports.
The youths, under the aegis of the Jonathan Youth
Vanguard, JOY 2015, warned trouble makers to steer clear of
the PDP presidential rally, vowing to deal with anti-Patience
elements, threatening to disrupt the proposed rally if the
First Lady accompanied her husband to the state.
According to the state Coordinator JOY 2015, Mr. Daniel Etai,
who spoke on behalf of the coalition, said it will be suicidal
for anybody to think of preventing the First Lady from
coming to the state.
Patience Jonathan has been very active in her husband’s re-
election campaign. At the PDP Rally in Enugu she expressed
confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the
only party that represents the interest of Nigerian woman
