The fire started very early, Tuesday morning, at 43 Shogbamu Street, New Garage, Bariga. Eye witnesses told NewsroomNG that the fire started before 6:00 a.m. Nine rooms and five shops in the building were destroyed in the fire, while one room in the next building, house number 45, was also destroyed.
A statement from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, said the fire was caused by an electrical surge from an electronics shop.
Reacting to the incident, LASEMA General Manager, Mr. Michael Akindele, advised Lagosians to always ensure that all electrical appliances were switched off at the close of work and when not in use at home.
He also advised that the use of naked cables and illegal connection be avoided.
