President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the release of N26 billion for
the 2015 dry season farming in the country.
He announced this in Abuja, on Friday, at the AGRIFEST 2015,
organised to mark the four years of agricultural reforms and
implementation of the agriculture transformation agenda.
“To further boost your efforts to produce more food for our nation, I am
pleased to announce to you here today the release of another N26 billion
towards the 2015 dry season farming programme,” he said.
“I am here today as your president. With your support, I hope to be here
next year as your president and then, I will do even more for you, for our
farmers and for our dear country,” Jonathan added.
He said that the nation was proud of Nigerian farmers as thousands of
jobs were being created for the youth through agriculture, this he notes,
calls for celebration.
Jonathan told the farmers that his administration’s aim is to empower
them and make them productive enough to become net exporters of food.
He said it was the reason government was improving irrigation
programmes nationwide, adding that “farmers are now producing more.”
