Fire Engulfs Petrol Tanker In Ketu

A petrol tanker onWednesday burst into flames at Olorunda Ketu area of Lagos State in south-west Nigeria.

The accident has caused huge traffic gridlock in the area,
with traffic management agencies advising persons coming from Lagos Island, through the Third Mainland Bridge, to seek alternative routes.

After several cases of tanker fire were reported few months ago, the Petroleum tanker drivers under the umbrella of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) pegged the maximum speed limit for their trucks at 60km/hr , as a measure to check the trend.

The Petroleum tanker drivers’ decision was announced by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at a meeting with stakeholders in the downstream sector on July 1.

They pegged the speed limit after the FRSC had earlier announce an official speed lmit of truck drivers at 75km/hr.
