Child Trafficking: Mother From Ondo Sells Her Child For N500,000

Teenager Tessy Obianu and four other suspects were arrested in Ondo state over alleged involvement in the human trafficking.

The 17-year-old mother is believed to have sold her baby to a couple in Onitsha for N500,000, Nigerian Watch reports.
The young woman is thought to have fallen victim to a special child trafficker who convinced her to sell the child to the Kalu family.

Commissioner Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison said the police acted on a tip-off From Obianu’s father. He raised alarm over his missing pregnant daughter. He narrated that Tessy had run away with pregnancy in January and reappeared in May, but without a baby.

Upon interrogation the suspect confessed to the crime adding that it was her father’s neigbour , Jude Azuja, who took her to Onitsha and nursed  her before the delivery in the house of the trafficker (Chibuzor Okoye).

The police commissioner said:-

“Following investigations in Onitsha, the police arrested Mrs Okoye, at No. 3, Tony Olisa Street, Awada, who specialises in child trafficking. It was Okoye, who sold the said baby girl to the couple at No. 8, Uzogwu Street, Onitsha for the sum of N500,000.

“She claimed to have given Jude the sum of N200,000 out of which Jude claimed to have bought clothes and shoes for Tessy and also gave her N30,000. Mrs Okoye thereafter forced Tessy, to sign an undertaking that she would never come back for the baby.”
