Details: How Sen. Anisulowo was kidnapped — Driver

DRIVER to the kidnapped former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Wasiu Afonja, yesterday, narrated how the four man gang carried out the abduction of the Senator.



Afonja said this when the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun accompanied by heads of security agencies in the state including the state commissioner of Police, state Director of the Department and Commandant, 35 Artillery Brigade, Abeokuta, visited Anishulowo’s farm at Sawonjo community in Yewa-North council area which is about 100 metres to the scene of the abduction.

Senator Anisulowo was abducted at about 6: pm on Wednesday between Sawonjo and Imaseyi junction in Yewa North council area of the state.

 Afonja said four of them, including Senator Anisulowo were in her Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) before they were waylaid and attacked in a ‘commando' style by four members of a gang about a kilometre from the farm.

 He said the kidnappers thereafter collected their phones, dropped others on the way and whisked Anisulowo away. He said, “They ordered the three of us, who were with Mama, down from the vehicle, they collected our phones and beat us with machetes.

The men spoke both English and Yoruba languages. Mama kept asking them what they wanted but they didn’t answer. It was around evening we discovered the abandoned SUV around Iganokoto.”

Kidnappers yet to contact us- family

Meanwhile, the family of the kidnapped Septuagenarian, who was a Senator of Ogun West Senatorial district between 2003 and 2007 has said the abductors were yet to contact them.

 A younger brother of the former minister, Kola Popoola said 24 hours after the disappearance of their breadwinner, the abductors were yet to contact the family. Popoola, who was contacted on phone around 4:pm, yesterday, said the family has reported the matter at the Ayetoro Police station which he said was handling it.

The commander of the Vigilante Service in the area Mr Oluyemi Zachaeus said they had information that Anisulowo was spotted on bike with a hood.

The information, he said, came from Obalado, a community within the kidnap radius. Amosun assures on release In the meantime, Governor Amosun has assured the people of Ogun state of Anisulowo’s rescue. Amosun, who gave the assurance when he visited Anishulowo’s farm at Sawon community in Yewa-North council area, assured that all efforts are in top gear to secure the release of the APC chieftain.

The governor and security chiefs in the state, including the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 comprising Ogun and Lagos States, Bala Hassan and the state director of Department of State Security stormed the farm to assess situation.

Amosun said, “Ogun State is safe and secured notwithstanding what has happened and I can assure that everybody is involved in the rescue operation - the army, police, SSS, paramilitary agencies and the local vigilante.

Farmers, hunters, everybody have been involved since late night when it happened.”
