Tanker explode at Lagos Airport road

A tanker carrying 33,000 litres of petrol exploded along the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) road, Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday evening, causing heavy vehicular movement along the road. Daily Trust learnt that the truck which had a break failure, rammed
into the median, spilling its content on the road.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Michael Akindele who confirmed the incident, said preliminary investigation conducted by the Agency's Emergency Response Team (ERT) revealed that the truck with registration number DKA369XF was laden with petrol and went up in flame after it spilled its content.

 He further stated that the investigation also revealed that the truck driver, having noticed that his truck was on fire, hurriedly drove it away from their parking lot, which occupied several other trucks.

The truck driver sustained several degrees of burnt on his body and one other person sustained injury.

Three other trucks with registration number XR998KSF, XP961KTU and XW158EPE were all destroyed by the inferno," Akindele stated.

 He added that further investigation would be conducted on the activities at the scene, while noting that the fire had been completely put out by the combined effort of the Lagos State Fire Service and LASEMA ERT.
