Photo: EFCC Raids Obanikoro's House In Ikoyi While He is Currently In US With His Family

Detectives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday raided the Ikoyi, Lagos, home of the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

The detectives arrived the Ikoyi home of Sen. Obanikoro in three unmarked vehicles wearing jackets with EFCC’s insignia and took over the entire street, restricting vehicular and human movement while the operation lasted.

It was learnt the operatives carried out a forensic search of all the rooms for hours and at the end of the operation allegedly went away with some valuables, including cars, computers and wrist watches. In a swift reaction to the raid, Obanikoro said the agency harassed his “innocent” children, took away his cars, wrist watches and other valuables.

Speaking on phone through his media aide, Jonathan Eze, the former minister said, “Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, in their characteristic gestapo-like manner, invaded Senator Obanikoro houses in Ikoyi with unnecessary intimidation and harassment of occupants who are majorly innocent kids, teenagers, his wife and daughters in-law, not without carting away cars, wristwatches and other valuables.

“This is against the backdrop of the fact that the anti-graft agency has never invited him or his sons for questioning beyond the tirades and allegations they have been propagating using the media.

“To our chagrin, the vehicles driven away were cars and trucks bought since 2006 and thereabouts when Senator Obanikoro served as an Ambassador in Ghana, among others, which obviously has no bearing with the purported investigation they are supposedly carrying out.

” Obanikoro said he had consulted with his lawyers and was prepared to meet the EFCC in court “to stop these intrusions and persecution.” EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the report, saying it was two sons.
