Scores Feared Killed As Militants, Security Agents Clash In Igbolomu, Ishawo Communities

 Scores were feared killed, Thursday, June 13, when suspected militants, purportedly from the Niger Delta invaded Igbolomu and Ishawo communities in Ikorodu area of Lagos.

 The militants reportedly engaged police officers and soldiers in a bloody gun duel. Independent checks reveal that this is the second invasion in one week around Ikorodu in Lagos that has led to the residents of the communities running helter shelter for their lives. Residents says more than 20 persons have been injured while property destroyed.


 A pastor resident in one of the communities told our correspondent on Friday that in addition to Ishawo and Igbolomu, the militants also stormed Elegbete, Imushin and Muti. However, online reports have it that there was heavy shooting by the militants, who stormed the areas in preparation to organize a candlelight service for their departed colleagues allegedly killed by security agents.

According to one of the reports, “The problem started when some SARS officers killed two of the militants last Friday in a hotel in Elepete. We gathered that the militants had actually gone to rob a place, but their faces were captured by CCTV cameras.

When a landlord in Elepete sighted them in the hotel, he gave the police information of their presence in the hotel. “The militants, on sighting the police in the hotel, tried to open fire, but the SARS operatives were quicker. The SARS officers killed two of them and arrested others, including the owner of the hotel. They took the corpses away.

 “As a reprisal, the militants attacked Elepete village from Friday night till Saturday morning. They allegedly killed no fewer than 15 people. Today’s attack is a continuation and it appeared they reinforced.

” Meanwhile, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos has assured that the situation is under control. According to Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, security operatives made up of the police and soldiers are on ground in these communities.h
