Obalende Residents Beg Tinubu Over LG Chairmanship

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward A Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos led by Pastor Gbenga Jacobs, a.k.a. Jombo, have appealed to the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other party leaders to support them in their quest to produce the next Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA in the coming local government election.

They said this is necessary to compensate them for the marginalization of the ward since the advent of democracy in 1999. They reminded the APC National leader that out of the five wards in Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, only ward A in Obalende community with the highest numbers of voters that is yet to produce the Chairman of Ikoyi- Obalende LCDA.


Speaking with our correspondent in Obalende, Pastor Jacobs said: “We, members of APC ward A in Obalende have been largely responsible for the victory of the party in the local government since 1999.

We are appealing to our indefatigable leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend his equitable distribution of elective portfolios to the Obalende community and ensure that the next chairmanship candidate of the party in Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA comes from Ward A. “

We are using this opportunity to remind our leaders that since the advent of Democracy in 1999, Ward A in Obalende community with the highest population of voting age and about 28 registered polling units have been supporting other candidates from other wards with block votes to win elections for them to become the Chairman of Ikoyi Obalende LGA.

“To buttress our point, past leaders who had used the block votes from ward A to win elections as chairmen of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA include Mr Jamiu Ogundimu from Ward B; Mr Wale Adeniji, Ward C, Dr Gbadebo Smith, Ward D, Akanni Mojidi, a.k.a Baba Ilu Oyinbo, Ward K3 and to our surprise in 2015, Toyin Caxton Martins was again appointed from Ward D as the immediate Caretaker Committee Chairperson of the LCDA.

“The question on the lips of all concerned APC members in Ward A now is why is the elective portfolio still eluding the Obalende community despite the fact that the APC has been winning successive elections in Ikoyi-Obalende with the block votes from the area.

 “We are now appealing to the irrepressible leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to help us break the jinx in Ward A in the coming LGA elections and support a candidate from the area to be the next Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, so as to give Obalende APC members a sense of belongings,” he stated.

In her contribution, Alhaja Jumai Isa, the Arewa APC Woman Leader in the area said; “We are begging our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support a candidate from Ward A in Obalende community in the coming election to become the Chairman of Ikoyi- Obalende LGA to compensate the APC members in the area for supporting other wards in Ikoyi- Obalende with block votes since 1999,”she pleaded.
