Soldiers Arrests Notorious Cattle Rustlers, Recover 1,062 Goats, 209 Cows

Soldiers of 1 Division of the Nigerian Army on operations against livestock theft, armed banditry and other forms of criminality have recovered 209 cows as well as 1062 goats and sheep during a raid on Dumburum Forest general area in Zurmi local government area. The raid, which took place on Sunday, also led to the clearing of two camps used by the bandits.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, acting Director of Army Public Relations. Also on Sunday, the statement said, the troops arrested a notorious cattle rustler named Isah Fulani at Mararrabar Jos in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.



In the same vein, the troops killed the leader of a livestock and armed banditry gang, Guruguru Magaji, at Tashar Nakau in Ikara LGA of Kaduna State after a fierce exchange of gunfire. Recovered from Magaji, the statement disclosed, were a revolver pistol and six locally-fabricated 9mm rounds of ammunition. At Anchau, Kubau LGA, Kaduna State, the statement added, soldiers arrested two persons parading themselves as members of a non-existent vigilante group, who had been harassing and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.

 The suspects, Mallam Hamza Hare and Mallam Sani Abdul- Aziz, also posed as liaison officers to security officers to dupe people. Similarly arrested was a notorious armed bandit that terrorized travelers, especially along the road linking Kaduna and Katsina States through Birnin Gwari and Funtua.

The bandit, Mohammed, also known as Abedariwa, was nabbed in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State. Apart from confessing and giving graphic details of his criminal activities, Mr. Usman said Mohammed has promised to cooperate fully with the military to fish out other criminal elements.
