Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), says Bukola Saraki is standing trial as an individual and not as senate president.
Umar made the statement in reaction to an application by Kanu Agabi, Saraki’s lead counsel, for adjournment.
Agabi had prayed the court for an adjournment on the grounds that Saraki would be attending to legislative matters at the senate from Tuesday to Thursday. But the CCT chairman responded that Saraki’s colleagues should go on with legislative business at the senate while he faced trial.
“The trial is not against the senate president, but just a personality. The senate is not on trial. Others can go ahead, but the trial must be day to day,” he said. The tribunal, thereafter, adjourned to Tuesday for continuation of trial.
